Qantas to fly non-stop from Perth to London in 17 and a half hours

Qantas has set its sights on operating the longest non-stop commercial airline passenger route in the world. It would be between Perth in Western Australia and London in the UK and the plan would hopefully be cleared for take off next week.
After the clearance is given, flights could start by Christmas 2017 once Qantas takes delivery of its first long-range Boeing 787 Dreamliners.
This has been reported in nzherald.co.nz dated 11 December 2016.
The 14,466-Km flight from Perth to London would take 17 and a half hours and that would make it the longest non-stop passenger route in the world. At present the longest non-stop passenger route is an Emirates Airlines 14,200-Km Dubai-to-Auckland flight that started in March 2016 - it takes 16 hours 35 minutes in an Airbus A380. Earlier to that, it was a Qantas flight on the Dallas-Sydney route - it takes 17 hours to fly 13,800-Km.
It is believed that Qantas chief was trying to make a deal with Perth airport officials - if he succeeds, it would allow passengers to board the 787 for London from the airport's domestic terminal. That would make the transfer easier for passengers who would be arriving from Sydney and Melbourne.
