Wildfire in California spreads over 11,000 acres - residents evacuated

California is once again in the grip of wildfire. It was a brush fire and it broke out along the northbound Antelope Valley near Sand Canyon Road in Santa Clarita. The blaze was contained only about 10 per cent between Friday and Saturday.
The wildfire was fueled by high heat and has so far spread across at least 11,000 acres in California`s Santa Clarita Valley area. It is attributed to the hot and dry temperatures coupled with gusts of up to 65 km per hour that left more than 2000 acres burnt.
This has been reported in zeenews.india.com dated 24 July 2016.
As a result of the fire, residents in Los Angeles have reported smoke-filled air and falling ash in many parts of the city and at least one building was believed to have been damaged or destroyed. However, there are no reports of injuries. Approximately 100 people were evacuated from the area of Capra Road off Soledad Canyon road because of the flames.
Teams of about 300 firefighters were battling the flames from the ground and air. The Los Angeles Fire Department has sent a water-dropping helicopter to join the county fire department while eight fixed-wing firefighting aircraft were also called in to tackle the blaze.
Due to the smoke, the authorities have asked those living to areas susceptible to direct smoke impact and unhealthy air quality, should remain indoors and avoid using swamp coolers and wood-burning appliances.
