HTT-40, India's homegrown basic trainer aircraft, to debut in Aero India 2017

India's homegrown basic trainer aircraft HTT-40 is undergoing test flights and is likely to debut in Aero India 2017 as revealed by Defence minister Manohar Parrikar. Aero India is a biennial air show in Bengaluru and HTT-40 would make its debut at the aviation extravaganza in February.
This has been reported in timesofindia.indiatimes.com dated 18 June 2016.
The young team from the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) who have delivered the aircraft within the deadline deserves praise because the average age of the team is between 29 and 35 years. Moreover, with indigenous content of HTT-40 in the region of 75%-80% it is truly an example of 'Made in India'.
It is a tandem seat trainer aircraft for ab initio training (first stage of training). As per the current plan, production of HTT-40 should start in 2018. The defence acquisition committee has already signed a letter of intent for about 72 aircraft and this could go up to 200 depending on the demand.
