Goat farming brings joy to people of Nag Tibba in Tehri


Nag Tibba is a picturesque village of Tehri district located just 28-Km from Mussoorie and goat farming is bringing joy to the people because it is creating opportunities of a new form of livelihood through producing and selling goat products like milk, cheese etcetera. Nag Tibba is uzzing with activity consequent to a unique experiment in farm tourism that is currently underway there.

The Tibba has homestays for tourists. An organization, 'Green People', have taken over two acres of land at the top of the village, named it 'Goat village' and are promoting rearing of goats. Facilities are being set up to supply goat milk, goat cheese and woollens are also being prepared from fine goat hair.
Incidentally, as per a Tata project report on goat farming, Uttarakhand is the seventh state in the country with a high goat population - its numbers are 13,67,000. The products of Nag Tibba would be marketed under the brand name 'Bakri Chaap'.
The new concept is not only providing a means of a better livelihood to the locals, but tourists at the homestay can also avail the opportunity of getting first hand experience in cultivation of local vegetables and rearing of goats, cattle and hens around these cottages. The products are supplied to various places like five star hotels.
There are 12 cottages made of wood, mud and stones that have been built in traditional style for stay of tourists at Nag Tibba.
