Women’s hockey team into 2016 Rio Olympics after 36-years on Dhyan Chand’s birthday

It is great news for Indian hockey that the women's hockey team qualified for the 2016 Olympics in Rio after Spain lost to England in the semi-finals of the EuroHockey Championships in London. This happens to be the second time the women's team has made it to the Olympic Games. The first time was in 1980. To add to the happiness is the fact that this news comes on a day when the country is celebrating the birthday of hockey wizard Major Dhyan Chand as National Sports Day.
This has been reported in zeenews.india.com dated 29 August 2015.
The Indian team had finished in the 5th position at the Hockey World League semi-finals earlier in July. Therefore, with England’s win, India got the chance to edge ahead. Both Netherlands and England had already sealed their qualification for Rio ahead of this EuroHockey Championships.
Other teams that have made it to 2016 Rio Olympics are South Korea, Argentina, Great Britain, China, Germany, Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand and the USA.
