Giant barrel jellyfish 5-ft long, 3-ft diameter and weighing 5-stone each found off Dorset coast

Giant barrel jellyfish have invaded the waters off the coast of Dorset and tens of thousands of these giant jellyfish are swarming off one of Britain's most popular stretch of coastline this Bank Holiday. This has been reported in dailymail.co.uk dated 25 May 2015.
These giants are 5ft long, weigh nearly five stone each and are of 3-ft diameter. In the opinion of experts, this unprecedented invasion is attributed to over fishing which has left fewer predators to eat the jellyfish when they are young and smaller.
The sting of these jellyfish is not considered dangerous to humans, it is similar to that of a nettle and can cause a rash.
Incidentally, conservationist Steve Trewhella had spotted the swarm from his dive boat off the coast of Kimmeridge in Dorset. It seems last year he had seen only two and was hoping he would be lucky enough to find a couple again to show his 10-year-old grandson Finn Hatcher. But, it came as a shock to him to come across more than 100 in the waters a mile off shore. He swam among them.
